Emater-MG releases guide for electric fence construction in livestock management

The Empresa de Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural de Minas Gerais (Emater-MG) has launched a new guide titled ‘Construção de Cercas Elétricas Aplicadas à Pecuária’ (Construction of Electric Fences Applied to Livestock). The manual provides practical instructions for the planning, construction, and maintenance of rural electric fences.

The guide explains that electric fences function as a psychological barrier rather than a physical one, using safe electrical stimuli to create a learning effect in animals. When properly installed, this technology helps optimize pasture division and reduces implementation costs compared to conventional fencing.

Veterinarian Cinthya Leite de Oliveira, one of the publication's authors, noted that system performance depends on technical quality, warning that many issues arise from improvised constructions. The guide emphasizes starting with a technical project that considers animal species, age, quantity, and property characteristics.
