Embark Studios to overhaul destruction in The Finals Season 12

Embark Studios has announced the ‘Dynamism’ update for its team-based FPS, The Finals, scheduled for release on October 20. This update marks the most significant overhaul to the game’s environmental destruction system since its launch.

The new system introduces a third layer of physics called ‘gradual destruction’ to sit between the existing ‘Strain’ layer (structural integrity) and the existing physics layer (fragmented debris). Instead of structures instantly breaking into isolated pieces, building components will now be able to hinge, twist, sag, and deform. This allows for more dynamic environments where floors may tilt, corridors may warp, and ceilings may partially collapse, creating new tactical routes or barriers mid-combat.

Additionally, the update will refine the behavior of smoke and toxic gases. These elements will no longer pass through solid walls, remaining confined to enclosed spaces unless dispersed by explosions. The update also aims to enhance the game’s visual and auditory immersion through improved lighting, materials, and sound effects related to structural decay.
