Embark Studios launches ARC Raiders free weekend and Frozen Trail update

Embark Studios is launching a major content update for ARC Raiders titled ‘Frozen Trail’ on October 8. To coincide with this release, the studio is hosting a free-to-play period from October 8 to October 12 for players on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. While some maps like Stella Montis are immediately available, others such as Buried City and Riven Tides require players to complete a specific number of matches to unlock.

The Frozen Trail update introduces the Pendola Pass snowy village map, new mechanized enemies, a weapon amplification system, and a redesigned rewards pass. Embark is also testing a PvE mode from October 13 to 20.

In response to community feedback regarding gameplay integrity, Embark has implemented stricter anti-cheat measures. The studio announced a zero-tolerance policy for cheaters, stating there will be ‘no warnings, no second chances’ and permanent bans for those using illicit tools. Additionally, the studio is targeting ‘teaming’ in solo matches, where players coordinate pre-match to target specific individuals.

Moving forward, Embark Studios has shifted its development strategy to focus on two substantial updates per year rather than monthly releases. This change aims to provide more meaningful content and long-term stability, even if it means players may take breaks between major expansions.
