Embraer and Mahindra propose Nagpur for C-390 assembly line
Embraer and the Mahindra Group have identified Nagpur, India, as the potential site for a final assembly line for the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft. The proposed facility is contingent upon the C-390 Millennium being selected for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme.
If the aircraft is chosen, the Nagpur facility is intended to encompass more than just assembly; it would include system integration, manufacturing engineering, and the development of a local supply chain. The partnership aims to progressively integrate Indian aerospace companies into the C-390 Millennium ecosystem, supporting India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives to bolster domestic defense manufacturing.
Embraer and Mahindra are currently coordinating with the Government of Maharashtra regarding infrastructure for the project. The C-390 Millennium is currently competing against Lockheed Martin’s C-130 Hercules for the Indian requirement, which is expected to involve an order of between 60 and 80 aircraft.
