Emelec retains coach Nasuti, signs Teo Gómez amid FIFA transfer bans
Emelec confirmed the continuation of coach Cristian Nasuti despite a recent run of poor results, with the board ratifying his role until the end of the season. Nasuti addressed a viral video from the defeat to Deportivo Cuenca, stating the clip was taken out of context and published with bad intent, and reiterated his comment that “Fragozo te da 40 minutos y muere”.
The club is also working to add new players. On 29 July the right‑back Luis “Teo” Gómez cleared his medical tests and is expected to sign shortly, although his registration remains subject to the remaining FIFA transfer bans that still limit Emelec’s ability to register new signings. Nasuti said the team is seeking two more reinforcements within the next ten to fifteen days.
Former goalkeeper Esteban Dreer reflected on his departure, saying he was ready to accept a salary reduction to stay at the club and that he would have remained had the president conveyed decisions directly to him.
