Emelec former presidents clash over club financial management
Former Emelec presidents José Pileggi and Nassib Neme have engaged in a public dispute regarding the financial state of the Ecuadorian football club during their respective tenures.
In a recent interview, Pileggi claimed he inherited a bankrupt club and left it organized and orderly. He noted that he was approached by the previous administration to run for president because they lacked a candidate. Pileggi also highlighted the personal pressures and threats he faced during his two-year management period.
Nassib Neme has strongly refuted these claims, labeling Pileggi a “mitómano” (mythomaniac). Neme accused Pileggi of destroying the club's assets, increasing liabilities, and wasting inherited resources. Neme specifically cited the loss of player value, noting that players like Dixon Arroyo and Sebastián Rodríguez left for free, resulting in no revenue for the club. Furthermore, Neme disputed the circumstances of Pileggi's candidacy, asserting that Pileggi was the one who requested to run for the presidency.
