Emerald ash borer confirmed in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county

The National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) has confirmed the presence of the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis) in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county. Following previous identifications in Beregsurány, experts found seven adult specimens in the settlements of Pácin, Sátoraljaújhely, and Karcsa.

In Sátoraljaújhely, officials identified larvae and adults within a tree trunk after observing symptoms such as exit holes and bark peeling. To prevent further spread, authorities have deployed dozens of color traps and are coordinating intensive survey efforts with Slovakian officials.

Experts are currently monitoring ash populations for signs of crown thinning and bark shedding. The public is encouraged to report any sightings of the pest to Nébih or local government offices to help protect the country's green infrastructure.
