Germany's Compass advises protective steps for care‑dependent persons against financial fraud
Compass Private Pflegeberatung, a German care‑consultancy, warned that people receiving care are at high risk of financial exploitation. A 2025 study by the Centre for Quality in Care found that 57 % of caregivers regularly manage financial matters for those they support, and nine out of ten believe care‑dependent individuals are especially vulnerable to fraud. Almost 40 % reported attempted or successful scams or trick‑theft. The consultancy highlighted that dementia increases both perceived risk and the number of suspected cases. It urged families to discuss powers of attorney and clear financial arrangements early, and to seek professional advice on safe banking procedures, legal safeguards and workload relief. Compass offers free, detailed counseling to legally insured individuals through Pflege‑Stützpunkte and private services.
