Emerenciano Sena begins hunger strike and requests house arrest
Emerenciano Sena, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the femicide of Cecilia Strzyzowski, has launched a hunger strike and requested house arrest due to deteriorating health. The former protest leader, currently held at the Complejo Penitenciario Provincial N. º 1 in Resistencia, submitted legal filings to the Second Criminal Chamber requesting an urgent medical evaluation.
Sena reported a “grave and progressive deterioration” of his physical and psychological state. He cited several medical conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders, and respiratory issues attributed to COVID-19 sequelae. He also noted hearing and vision loss, memory difficulties, and the need for potential surgical intervention for hernias.
In his petition, Sena criticized the conditions at the Resistencia penitentiary complex, alleging poor ventilation, humidity, structural decay, and insect presence. He requested either house arrest or a transfer to a different sector of the facility with better hygiene, ventilation, and food to facilitate medical monitoring.
