Emergency crews respond to separate climbing accidents in UK and Australia

Two separate rock climbing accidents involving falls from cliffs occurred on Saturday in the United Kingdom and Australia.

In the UK, emergency services, including the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, conducted a multi-agency operation at Wintour’s Leap near Chepstow. Two climbers fell near the base of the Great Wall. Rescuers utilized a specialist Larkin Frame rope system but ultimately determined it was safer to carry the injured climber out via stretcher rather than performing a vertical lift. The casualty was handed over to ambulance crews at Lancaut.

In Australia, a woman in her 30s fell approximately 30 metres while climbing the Ben Travado Wall in Blue Mountains National Park. Emergency responders, including a rescue helicopter and NSW Ambulance, attended the scene near the Sublime Point walking track. The climber sustained serious injuries to her head and limbs and was reported to be in stable condition.
