Emergency drills held in Apucarana and Londrina to prepare for extreme weather
Emergency response teams in the state of Paraná, Brazil, conducted training exercises to prepare for the potential impacts of extreme weather events and El Niño.
In Apucarana, the 11th Military Firefighters Battalion led a simulation involving the Civil Defense, the local government, and Copel. The drill included practical exercises at the State University of Paraná (Unespar) campus, focusing on removing hazardous trees to mitigate storm risks without disrupting the local power supply.
In Londrina, the Municipal Civil Defense coordinated an emergency simulation near the Três Bocas Power Plant. The exercise simulated a bridge collapse caused by extreme climate events, involving the Municipal Guard, Firefighters, Military Police, and local residents. The drill aimed to test communication and integration between agencies in areas historically vulnerable to flooding and isolation.
