Emergency incidents reported in France and Switzerland

In France, a grandstand collapsed at the Château de Bienassis in Erquy on August 18, 2026, during the seating of spectators for a light and sound show. Approximately 100 people were on the affected structure when it gave way. The incident resulted in 16 injuries, with five individuals being hospitalized. Emergency services, including 54 firefighters and medical teams from Saint-Brieuc and Saint-Malo, responded to the scene. An investigation has been opened by the Saint-Brieuc prosecutor's office to determine the cause of the collapse.

In Switzerland, a violent fire broke out in a restaurant adjacent to apartments in Thusis, Grisons, shortly after midnight on August 21, 2026. While 14 people managed to escape the building, five individuals remain missing. Eight people were injured, two of whom are in serious condition. Nearly 100 firefighters were deployed to combat the blaze, which required using a crane to open the roof after the staircase collapsed. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
