Emergency incidents reported in Germany and Switzerland

Two separate emergency incidents occurred in Germany and Switzerland in early September 2026.

In Konz-Könen, Germany, a glider carrying two people was forced to make a controlled emergency landing on September 6 after its winch cable snapped during takeoff. The pilot steered the aircraft into treetops to avoid open ground, resulting in significant damage estimated in the five-figure range. Both occupants escaped the wreckage uninjured. Emergency responders, including an Air Rescue helicopter and local fire departments, attended the scene.

In Konstanz, Switzerland, a fire broke out in a restaurant's ventilation system and kitchen annex on the morning of September 5. The fire department escalated the alarm level to a building fire due to heavy smoke and the building's structure. While the fire required extensive efforts to extinguish and clear remaining embers from the ventilation system, all occupants of the establishment and adjacent buildings evacuated safely without injury.
