Emergency medical services expand in Mistelgau and Saarbrücken

In Mistelgau, a new emergency medical dispatch point has been established to improve response times in the Bayreuth Southwest region. Since November 1, 2026, a Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) ambulance has been stationed there daily from 8:00 to 20:00. The initiative follows a TRUST-IV assessment by the Institute for Emergency Medicine and Medical Management, which identified a need for better coverage in Mistelgau, Glashütten, Gesees, Eckersdorf, and Muthmannsreuth. The goal is to ensure that emergency vehicles reach urgent calls within the required twelve-minute window in at least 80 percent of cases.

In Saarbrücken, the Johanniter organization continues its mobile medical assistance for vulnerable populations. Through their “Pflasterlaster” initiative, volunteers provide free nighttime medical care to homeless individuals and those without health insurance. The team, which includes medical professionals such as orthopedic surgeon Michael Marz, treats chronic wounds, infections, and other ailments exacerbated by poor hygiene and exposure to the elements.
