Emergency medical services face scrutiny in Mexico and Paraguay

In Rosarito, Mexico, patients at the Hospital General have reported a lack of triage services, which are essential for prioritizing patients based on the severity of their condition. Complaints include insufficient medical staff and a failure to monitor vital signs for urgent cases, such as patients with diabetes and hypertension. Critics have also pointed to leadership transitions within the health sector as a contributing factor to resource shortages.

In Paraguay, medical professionals have raised concerns regarding the availability and response times of the Servicio de Emergencias Médicas Extrahospitalarias (SEME). A specific incident in Caapucú highlighted difficulties in securing an ambulance for a patient requiring cardiac intervention. While the Ministry of Health described the situation as a “malentendido” (misunderstanding) and stated that the transfer was eventually completed, the case has sparked debate over the operational readiness of the national ambulance network during large-scale events.
