Emergency medical services manage high-risk pregnancies during Chuseok holiday
During the Chuseok holiday period in South Korea, emergency medical cooperation systems successfully managed several high-risk pregnancy cases.
In Incheon, Inha University Hospital performed an emergency cesarean section on a high-risk pregnant woman of Uzbek nationality. The patient, who had not received prenatal care and was experiencing labor and water breaking, was admitted late at night following a 119 emergency call. Despite limited available beds, medical teams from obstetrics, anesthesiology, and pediatrics collaborated to deliver a 1.83kg baby girl, who is currently receiving care in the neonatal intensive care unit.
In a separate incident in Busan, an emergency medical team transported a pregnant woman at 29 weeks gestation to a hospital in Jeonju, approximately 250km away, after local facilities were unable to accommodate her. Despite heavy holiday traffic, the ambulance reached the destination in 2 hours and 40 minutes with the assistance of motorists yielding to the emergency vehicle. The patient was successfully discharged following her treatment.
