Emergency preparedness guidelines for disaster readiness
Emergency management agencies emphasize the importance of individual and family preparedness to mitigate the impact of natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and wildfires.
In Peru, the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) recommends maintaining an emergency backpack weighing approximately 8 kilograms. This kit should include hygiene items, a first aid kit, non-perishable food, clothing, communication tools, and money. Due to health considerations, it is also advised to include biosecurity supplies like masks, soap, and alcohol.
For individuals with disabilities, preparedness requires specific planning regarding mobility equipment, communication needs, vision assistance, and medical requirements. Those dependent on electricity for medical devices should secure backup power sources, such as batteries or power banks, and maintain a supply of essential medications.
