Emergency rescues reported in Brindisi and Cinque Terre

Two separate emergency rescue operations were conducted in Italy on September 21 and 22.

In the Brindisi region, a 32-year-old man was seriously injured after becoming trapped in the gears of a power tiller during agricultural work near the border of Brindisi and San Donaci. Firefighters performed a delicate extraction to free him from the machinery. The man remained conscious during the operation and was transported to the Perrino Hospital in Brindisi, where his condition is being monitored. Local Carabinieri and Spesal inspectors are investigating the cause of the accident and the man's employment status.

In the Cinque Terre region, a 42-year-old hiker was rescued from a steep cliff at Punta Pineda. The man had become stranded while attempting to climb back to the road and spent several hours clinging to tree roots to avoid falling into the sea. Because a ground rescue was impossible, the Coast Guard deployed a helicopter from Sarzana. Using night vision, rescuers located the exhausted man and extracted him via winch before transporting him to medical personnel.
