Ștefănești firefighter injured during fire intervention

A firefighter was injured after being struck in the chest by a brick during a fire intervention in Ștefănești, Argeș County. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, October 25, while crews from the Pitești Fire Department were attempting to extinguish a fire on Sticlelor Street in the Zăvoi area.

According to ISU Argeș and local police, the situation escalated when bystanders became aggressive toward emergency responders and their equipment. The fire reportedly broke out during unauthorized traditional celebrations known as ‘Focul lui Sumedru’. In addition to the injury sustained by the firefighter, an emergency fire truck and an unmarked police vehicle were damaged during the confrontation.

Special operations units, gendarmerie, and police from Pitești and Ștefănești intervened to restore order. Three individuals have been identified and taken for questioning. Raed Arafat, head of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU), strongly condemned the aggression, stating there is ‘no justification’ for attacking rescuers who are working to protect lives and property.
