Emergency Responders Rescue Choking Infants in Brazil

In Parnaíba, Piauí, a 10‑month‑old baby began choking on a plastic biscuit wrapper. Firefighters from the Corpo de Bombeiros arrived at the Lagoa do Portinho site, performed standard airway‑obstruction maneuvers and removed the fragment, after which the child resumed normal breathing and required no hospital transport.

In Alta Floresta, Mato Grosso, an 8‑month‑old infant showed signs of choking at a family home. Police officers of the 8º Batalhão of the Polícia Militar responded at their quarter, cleared the airway on site and the baby was subsequently taken to the Hospital Regional for medical observation. Both incidents underscore the role of Brazil’s emergency services in preventing infant choking fatalities.
