Emergency responders rescue infants from choking in Brazil
Two separate incidents in Brazil involved the successful rescue of infants suffering from choking.
In Cocal do Sul, a newborn was treated at the ESF Vila Nova health unit after choking on breast milk. Medical professionals, including Dr. Alex Heluany and a nurse, performed airway clearance maneuvers to stabilize the infant. Local health officials noted that the municipality has recently implemented support groups for pregnant women to teach choking response techniques.
In Campo Grande, military police officers from the 10th BPM responded to an emergency in Jardim Los Angeles involving a three-month-old baby. After noticing the infant had turned purple and was unresponsive, officers performed the Heimlich maneuver and cardiac massage. The baby regained breathing and was subsequently transported to a local urgent care unit for medical evaluation.
