Emergency response and infrastructure challenges in rural Albacete and Las Toscas

In the province of Albacete, Spain, the Sierra del Segura Local Action Group (GAL), in partnership with 12 local town councils, has launched the ‘La Sierra Segura’ project. This initiative aims to improve emergency response times for residents in isolated rural areas and small hamlets. The project involves creating a property registry using GPS technology to provide emergency services with precise geographic locations and essential information for each property.

Meanwhile, in Las Toscas, Argentina, residents are facing isolation due to heavy rainfall and deteriorating road conditions. Recent storms have cut off the only alternative exit from the town, preventing medical professionals from reaching the community and hindering teachers and suppliers from traveling. The lack of a resident doctor and the inability to transport patients during emergencies have prompted local citizens to organize petitions to demand improved infrastructure and connectivity.
