Italy conducts nationwide emergency response simulations
Various emergency services and civil protection agencies across Italy conducted a series of large-scale training exercises to prepare for diverse disaster scenarios.
In the north, the “Monte Legnone 2026” exercise involved approximately 200 volunteers, firefighters, and Carabinieri Forestali testing forest fire prevention and coordination using satellite communications and remote piloting technology. Nearby, the Carabinieri and Vigili del Fuoco executed the “Grifo 5” drill, simulating a flood of the Tanaro river to test regional emergency management plans and inter-provincial coordination.
In central and coastal regions, the Marina Militare organized the “Mare Aperto 26” simulation at the port of Civitavecchia. This exercise tested medical triage and large-scale sanitary response coordination involving the Italian Red Cross and Ares 118, utilizing a hospital ship to manage complex emergency scenarios.
Additional regional training included rescue dog units from S.A.R. TEAM Faenza practicing helicopter operations with the Guardia di Finanza at Rimini Airport, and the Pescara municipal civil protection group simulating river flooding to test water pump deployment and local volunteer readiness.
