Emergency service uniforms evolve into technical protection systems
The design of uniforms for security and emergency services is shifting from simple identification tools to integrated protection systems. Modern equipment must now balance ergonomics, thermal management, lightness, and specialized protection against specific operational risks.
For firefighters, the National Institute for Safety and Health at Work (INSST) emphasizes that protection needs vary by scenario. While thermal risk remains a priority, different interventions may require mechanical resistance, protection against biological or chemical agents, and high visibility. Consequently, specialized standards have emerged, such as EN 469:2020 for structural firefighting, EN ISO 15384:2020 for forest fires, and EN 16689:2017 for technical rescue.
