Emergency services respond to residential fires in Belgium and the Netherlands
Emergency services in the region are addressing the aftermath of residential fires through both active rescue operations and new support initiatives. In Bavel, Netherlands, emergency responders rescued an elderly woman from her burning home on a Saturday night. The fire heavily damaged the ground floor, and the resident was hospitalized after inhaling smoke. Stichting Salvage is currently assessing the property.
In response to the long-term challenges faced by fire victims, Hulpverleningszone Zuid-Oost in Belgium has launched the ‘Wat te doen na een brand?’ (What to do after a fire?) campaign. The initiative provides residents with practical guidance on managing insurance, assessing damage, finding temporary shelter, and restoring utilities. The service includes a physical folder, which firefighters deliver personally to victims following an intervention, as well as a digital version accessible via QR code.
