Municipalities in Brazil and Portugal conduct emergency preparedness drills
Various municipalities in Brazil and Portugal are conducting emergency preparedness activities and simulations to mitigate risks from climate events and digital threats.
In Ubatuba, Brazil, Civil Defense agents are monitoring high-risk sectors in Perequê-Mirim to prepare for floods, landslides, and heavy rains. Similarly, in Corupá, social assistance teams are coordinating with Civil Defense to establish protocols for supporting families during extreme weather.
In the Bento Gonçalves region, the ‘Operação Guardião’ simulation will involve multiple security forces to test response times to mass movements and missing persons near the Rio das Antas. Additionally, the energy company Ceran will conduct an emergency drill at the 14 de Julho hydroelectric plant to prepare residents near the dam.
In Paraty, Civil Defense participated in community safety workshops focusing on El Niño impacts. Meanwhile, in Valongo, Portugal, the municipality is launching ‘CIBER 26: Resiliência em Ação’, a pioneering exercise to test the response of essential services like water, energy, and schools to a simulated large-scale cyberattack.
