Emerson Freitas faces arrest warrant for extortion investigation

The Civil Police are searching for elected state deputy Emerson Freitas (MDB) following a preventive arrest warrant issued by Judge Albérides Nicéas de Albuquerque Filho of the 15th Criminal Court of the Capital. Freitas is under investigation for extortion in a domestic violence case.

Defense attorney Weryd Simões stated that a preliminary injunction was granted to allow access to the legal proceedings. The defense argues that the investigation, which began in July during the electoral period, is politically motivated and intended to silence Freitas after he used social media to denounce organized crime activities.
