Emicool unveils roadmap to achieve net zero operations by 2050

Emirates District Cooling (Emicool) has announced a structured roadmap to achieve net zero operations by 2050. The plan is based on a 2023 emissions baseline of 183,423 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e), covering Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions.

To support this transition, approximately AED 116 million has been allocated for energy optimisation initiatives through 2027. The company has set an interim target to reduce emissions by 10% by 2035 against the 2023 baseline. The long-term goal is to achieve a 90% reduction in emissions by 2050, with any remaining hard-to-abate emissions being neutralised only after all feasible direct reductions are exhausted.

The decarbonisation strategy includes operational efficiency improvements, plant and network optimisation, digital transformation, renewable energy integration, and the adoption of low-carbon technologies. Emicool, a joint venture between Dubai Investments and Actis, currently operates 20 district cooling plants in Dubai.
