Emil Radev joins initiative committee for Iliyana Yotova

Bulgarian MEP Emil Radev, a member of the GERB/EPP party, has defended his decision to join the initiative committee supporting Iliyana Yotova’s presidential candidacy. Radev stated that there is no internal contradiction with his party membership because GERB has decided not to field its own candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.

Radev noted that he informed party leader Boyko Borisov about the invitation before accepting. He emphasized that his support for Yotova is a personal position rather than an official party stance. He praised Yotova’s ability to transcend narrow political interests, citing their successful collaboration in the European Parliament on issues such as electronic justice and the removal of discriminatory monitoring that hindered Bulgaria’s entry into the Schengen Area.

Furthermore, Radev characterized Yotova as a potential unifier for the nation, noting that her committee includes individuals from diverse professions, social strata, and political backgrounds.
