Emile Doucouré chooses to represent Mali internationally

Emile Doucouré, the 18-year-old goalkeeper for KRC Genk's youth team, has officially decided to represent Mali at the international level. This decision marks a definitive end to any potential future with the Belgian national team.

Doucouré stated that he has fully embraced his Malian roots following increased personal connections to the country. He confirmed the decision after discussions with Guy Martens, emphasizing, “This is a definitive choice that I fully stand behind: I choose Mali one hundred percent.”

The young goalkeeper has already traveled to Mali to join the national team's senior squad for the current international period. His arrival is seen as a significant reinforcement for the Malian side as he begins his international career.
