Emilia Konwerska wins Witold Gombrowicz Literary Award

Emilia Konwerska has been named the winner of the 11th Witold Gombrowicz Literary Award for her book ‘Rzeczy robione specjalnie’. The award, which recognizes prose debuts, was presented during a ceremony in Radom.

Professor Jerzy Franczak, chair of the jury, described the winning work as an ‘adventurous and highly idiosyncratic’ collection of forty short prose pieces that challenge reader expectations through humor and thought experiments rather than conventional plots. Konwerska received 40,000 PLN, a statuette, and a pair of binoculars, a symbol of creative attentiveness.

Additionally, Marcin Oskar Czarnik, author of ‘Trzy dni, trzy noce’, was awarded a one-month literary residency in Vence, France, a location where Gombrowicz spent his final years. The award was established by the city of Radom in 2015.
