Emilia-Romagna allocates funds for mental health and non-EU medical care

The Emilia-Romagna regional government has announced significant healthcare investments for 2026. The region is allocating 40 million euros to strengthen its mental health network, focusing on personalized care, rehabilitation, and social inclusion. Of this amount, 33.7 million euros is designated for the ‘Fondo per l’autonomia possibile – Salute mentale’ (Fund for Possible Autonomy – Mental Health), which supports socio-sanitary interventions, autism spectrum disorders, and individuals transitioning from psychiatric hospitals.

Additionally, the regional council has allocated 600,000 euros to support high-specialty medical treatments for non-EU citizens, particularly minors from countries affected by war or extreme poverty. This program provides access to critical interventions in fields such as cardiology, pediatric surgery, oncology, and orthopedics for patients who cannot receive adequate care in their home countries. Since 2015, the program has treated 853 individuals, with a significant portion being children under 14.
