Emilia-Romagna faces 12,000-person waiting list for public care facilities
Approximately 12,000 people are currently on waiting lists for positions in public residential care facilities (RSA) in Emilia-Romagna. Despite an increase in regional funding for non-self-sufficiency, the demand for care is outpacing the available supply.
Under the administration led by President Michele De Pascale, the regional fund has been increased to 568.2 million euros for the 2025-2027 budget. This includes an 84 million euro increase in 2025, with additional allocations planned for 2026 and 2027. However, the region faces a growing demographic challenge, with the number of non-self-sufficient individuals estimated to rise from 220,000 in 2025 to 370,000 over the next two decades.
