Emilia-Romagna family associations launch petition for birthrate law

The “Natalità bene comune” (Birthrate as a Common Good) campaign is gathering signatures to urge the Emilia-Romagna region to approve an organic law focused on birthrates and family support. Promoted by the Forum of Family Associations of Emilia-Romagna, the initiative seeks to move beyond temporary bonuses toward structural policies.

The proposed legislation focuses on four key pillars: facilitating family formation through youth employment and housing support; developing childcare services and work-life balance; implementing continuous family policies, including specific protections for second and subsequent children; and establishing a network of “Family-Friendly Municipalities” to share best practices.

Campaign organizers aim to collect 10,000 signatures from adult residents of Emilia-Romagna by mid-October. The goal is to have the regional council discuss and approve the law by the end of 2026, ensuring necessary resources are allocated in the subsequent regional budget. Local administrations, such as Bellaria Igea Marina, have already begun supporting the collection of signatures.
