Italy implements regional education and family support reforms

Italy is implementing various regional and national initiatives regarding education and family support for the 2026/2027 period. In Rome, a new digital application will be introduced to manage attendance and communications between schools and families for children aged 0-6. Nationally, new educational guidelines are being introduced, including the optional return of Latin in middle school and reforms to technical institutes.

Regional programs focus on financial and social support. Puglia has allocated 60 million euros for educational vouchers for children aged 0-3, while Piemonte is providing 7.7 million euros to support non-profit nursery schools. In Emilia-Romagna, the region is investing 40 million euros in mental health services and experimenting with using primary school spaces for extracurricular activities to assist working families. Additionally, the region is offering subsidies for school textbooks.

Local municipalities are also active: Bareggio has renewed its participation in the Giraskuola platform for reusing school materials, and Dresano is providing summer centers and afternoon campus programs to support working parents. In Arezzo, parents can request extended school hours for children in municipal nurseries and kindergartens. In Rimini, new projects aim to support students with emotional regulation difficulties and provide artistic expression spaces for teenagers.
