Emilia-Romagna official addresses wolf management and prevention
Regional Councilor Alice Parma has defended the Emilia-Romagna region's response to wolf-related issues, particularly in the Rimini area. Parma highlighted the implementation of a monitoring system and a collaborative discussion group established by the Prefect and coordinated by the Carabinieri Forestali.
To mitigate wildlife damage, the region allocates between 300,000 and 350,000 euros annually for protection systems, such as fencing and livestock guardian dogs, with priority given to wolf-related interventions. Recent financial measures include a recently concluded 2 million euro extraordinary fund and an upcoming 3.5 million euro call for tenders expected by the end of the year.
Regarding compensation for damages, Parma noted that new provisions approved in May 2025 have reduced the maximum timeframe for completing investigations to 30 days. However, she emphasized that national regulatory frameworks limit regional intervention capabilities. Parma stated that the region has repeatedly requested dialogue from national ministries and Ispra, noting that the central government must address regulatory obstacles and provide clearer tools.
