Emilia-Romagna outlines priorities for EU Common Agricultural Policy 2028-2034

The Emilia-Romagna region has presented a strategic roadmap and ten priority points regarding the upcoming European Union Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for 2028-2034. During a conference in Bologna, regional officials emphasized the need for certain and adequate European resources, greater programming autonomy for regional authorities, and reduced bureaucracy for businesses.

The regional agri-food system is a significant economic driver, comprising over 46,000 agricultural enterprises and 4,400 food companies. In 2025, the agricultural production value reached 8.6 billion euros, while agri-food exports totaled 11.6 billion euros, representing 16% of Italy's total. Additionally, the region's DOP and IGP productions are valued at 4 billion euros, accounting for 19% of the national total.

Regional Agriculture Councilor Alessio Mammi highlighted the necessity of supporting farmers facing climate change and market volatility, such as rising costs for fuel and fertilizers. The proposed roadmap includes stakeholder consultations and supply chain discussions to ensure the new CAP framework supports investment, innovation, and generational renewal within the sector.
