Emilia-Romagna president opposes new migrant repatriation center

Michele de Pascale, the Democratic Party president of Emilia-Romagna, has opposed a government plan to establish a regional CPR (repatriation center) intended for migrants without legal residency. The proposal has sparked a political dispute between regional leadership and the central government in Rome.

Following a visit to Dozza Prison in Bologna, de Pascale highlighted the challenges faced by inmates without regular residence permits. He noted that while these individuals can work while incarcerated, they often fall out of the legal labor market upon release if their status is not regularized. The central government reportedly intends to proceed with the establishment of the repatriation center despite the regional opposition.
