Emilia-Romagna public transport faces 10 million euro annual loss

Private companies providing local public transport in Emilia-Romagna are facing significant financial instability due to rising operational costs. According to CAIPET, a committee representing private road passenger transport associations, the sector is accumulating estimated losses of nearly 10 million euros annually.

Technical reports indicate that operators are experiencing an average deficit of 43 cents per kilometer across more than 23 million annual service kilometers. This deficit is driven by several factors, most notably a 37% increase in diesel prices between March and September 2026 compared to 2025, as well as rising costs for labor, insurance, maintenance, and spare parts.

CAIPET is calling on the Emilia-Romagna Region to establish a permanent negotiating table with mobility agencies and operators. They are also requesting extraordinary funding in the 2027 budget and urging the national government to adjust the National Transport Fund to ensure the continuity of essential services, particularly in remote and mountainous areas.
