Italy vehicle theft statistics show high rates in Sicily, Lazio, and Emilia-Romagna

Recent data from the Ministry of the Interior, analyzed by Facile.it, reveals significant trends in vehicle thefts across several Italian regions.

In Sicily, over 20,400 vehicles—including 15,555 cars and approximately 4,800 motorcycles and mopeds—were stolen within a 12-month period. Sicily ranks third in Italy for vehicle theft, trailing only Campania and Lazio. Within the region, Palermo and Catania account for over 80% of car thefts. Notably, only 15.3% of Sicilian motorists carry theft insurance.

Lazio ranks as the second most affected region in Italy, with nearly 25,000 vehicles stolen, including 18,071 cars. Rome recorded the highest number of thefts in the region with 16,703 reported cases. In Lazio, approximately 29.8% of drivers have theft insurance.

Emilia-Romagna saw more than 3,700 vehicles stolen, including 2,424 cars. Bologna reported the highest number of thefts in the region with 842, followed by Modena and Reggio Emilia. In this region, 26.8% of motorists are covered by theft insurance.
