Emiliano Martínez begins physical rehabilitation after jaw surgery
Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez has begun physical rehabilitation following surgery for a fractured jaw sustained during a match between Chelsea and Everton. Four days after the injury, Martínez shared footage on social media showing him using a stationary bike in the gym to maintain fitness during the early stages of his recovery.
While the progress is positive, the injury requires several weeks of healing to ensure the bone consolidates properly. Due to the high-impact nature of his position, medical precautions will remain strict.
As a result of the injury, Martínez is expected to miss Argentina’s upcoming friendly matches against Uruguay and Costa Rica in November. Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni will likely look to Gerónimo Rulli, Juan Musso, or Santiago Beltrán as potential replacements, with Rulli considered the most natural successor given his recent experience with the national team.
