Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez rescued from mud in Sierra de los Padres

During his post‑World Cup 2026 vacation near Mar del Plata, Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez became stuck in deep mud after heavy rains made the rural road at Sierra de los Padres impassable. Local residents Leonardo Albarracín and his son Ramiro, who were riding motorcycles in the area, recognized the goalkeeper and led a three‑hour effort to free his truck. Using rope (lingas), a shovel and a small tractor, they managed to pull the vehicle out of the mire.

Martínez thanked the rescuers repeatedly, signing autographs, giving them an official national‑team jacket and other memorabilia. video of the rescue and photos of Martínez’ right‑hand ring finger – still visibly deformed from a fracture suffered days before the tournament – spread on social media, highlighting his humility and the lingering injury. The incident received wide coverage in Argentine media but had no impact on his sporting duties.
