Emiliano Martínez switches to number 1 shirt at Chelsea

Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has switched his jersey number from 26 to 1. The Argentine goalkeeper initially wore the number 26, noting that the legacy of Chelsea legend John Terry influenced his choice, but he has now transitioned to the traditional goalkeeper’s number following the departure of Robert Sánchez.

Sánchez, who previously held the number 1 shirt, has been loaned to Como in Italy after making errors during a match against Fulham. Martínez, who joined Chelsea for £7.5m, is expected to take on the number 1 shirt for upcoming fixtures, including the match against Arsenal.

To accommodate supporters, Martínez has offered to sign official ‘Martinez 26’ shirts purchased through the club’s Megastore or website. Fans must bring proof of purchase to Stamford Bridge by October 4 to receive the signed merchandise.
