Emilia‑Romagna allocates over €550,000 to men’s violence‑prevention centres

The regional government of Emilia‑Romagna approved the distribution of more than €550,000 in national funds to support 15 Centres for Men Who Commit Violence (Cuav) across the region. Seven of the centres are public, run by local health agencies, and eight are managed by third‑sector organisations, with locations in every province.

The funding aims to expand programmes that hold male perpetrators accountable, raise awareness of the consequences of violent behaviour and prevent recidivism. The number of men enrolled in the Cuav programmes has risen from 893 in 2023 to 1,484 in 2025. Regional equal‑opportunity assessor Gessica Allegni said the resources “integrate our strategy in the fight against violence against women” by enabling men to undertake responsibility and change.

Emilia‑Romagna was the first Italian region to finance a public centre for this purpose in 2011, and the new investment reinforces its long‑standing commitment to gender‑based violence prevention alongside shelters and anti‑violence services.
