Emilio Barchiesi awarded ISIMM Junior Prize 2026 in Sweden

Emilio Barchiesi, a professor from the Department of Architecture, Design, and Urbanism at the University of Sassari, has been awarded the ISIMM Junior Prize 2026. The award, presented by the International Society for Interaction between Mechanics and Mathematics, recognizes researchers under the age of 35 for their work in applied mathematics to the mechanics of materials.

The prize was presented during the 15th Symposium “Trends in Applications of Mathematics to Mechanics” held in Uppsala, Sweden. As part of the recognition, Barchiesi delivered a lecture on the propagation of solitonic waves in pantographic waveguides. This research focuses on waves that maintain their shape through a balance of non-linear and dispersive effects, which could lead to advancements in engineering, such as managing dynamic stresses and mechanical signal transmission.

Additionally, Barchiesi announced that Alghero will host the “Modeling Complexity in Mechanics” international conference from April 25 to 30, 2027, organized in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Turin and the University of Calgary.
