Emilio Isgrò visits Perugia prison for art project

Artist Emilio Isgrò and Fra Marco Moroni, Custodian of the Sacred Convent of Assisi, met with participants of the “Museo in valigia” (Museum in a Suitcase) project at the Capanne prison in Perugia.

Promoted by Fondazione CariPerugia Arte and funded by Sviluppumbria, the initiative aims to bring artistic heritage to locations that typically lack access to art. The project began at the Museo di Palazzo Baldeschi, where participants decorated suitcases to serve as unique vessels for creative tools, personal thoughts, and letters.

These suitcases traveled to prisons, protected residences, and community centers, facilitating a dialogue between youth and recipients through handwritten messages and creative exchange. The meeting with Isgrò was prompted by the participants' engagement with his “erasure” technique, specifically applied to the Cantico delle Creature, which inspired them to transform existing texts into personal messages by selectively leaving words visible.
