Emily St. John Mandel discusses new novel on societal collapse
Author Emily St. John Mandel has released her latest novel, ‘Exit Party,’ published by HarperCollins. The book explores themes of societal collapse through characters navigating parallel universes, featuring two distinct versions of the United States: one where the country breaks apart and another where it is crushed.
Mandel, who gained recognition for her novel ‘Station Eleven’ due to its thematic similarities to the COVID-19 pandemic, noted that the current political climate in the United States served as inspiration for her new work. She described observing shades of societal collapse in the real world and sought to ‘stay ahead of the news cycle’ during the writing process.
