Emin Alper’s ‘Salvation’ to screen at Le Royal cinema in Toulon

The Le Royal cinema in Toulon has announced its programming for the week of September 2 to 8, 2026, featuring the film ‘Salvation’ by Turkish director Emin Alper. The film, which received the Grand Prix at the 2026 Berlinale, is a political drama inspired by real events from the early 2000s.

Set in Turkey, the story explores the resurgence of ancestral conflicts between two villages as exiled residents attempt to reclaim their lands. The narrative examines themes of radicalization and the instrumentalization of community tensions, specifically highlighting how populist politics can frame the elimination of certain populations as a necessity for national salvation. The film utilizes dreamlike, prophetic sequences to depict collective hallucinations and the influence of state-sanctioned militias.

In addition to ‘Salvation’, the cinema's lineup includes Cristian Mungiu’s drama ‘Fjord’ and the comedy ‘De la Comédie-Française’.
