Emin Ay appointed co-mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality

Emin Ay has been appointed as the new co-mayor of the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality. This appointment follows the resignation of the previous co-mayor, Doğan Hatun, who stepped down in accordance with the ‘Principle of Withdrawal’.

The DEM Party’s Democratic Local Governments Board announced that the selection process followed specific procedures outlined in the Democratic Local Governments Attitude Document. The decision was reached after a comprehensive consultation process involving the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Council, local district organizations in Amed, and various democratic institutions to ensure collective will and common sense were prioritized.

In its statement, the party emphasized that the co-mayoralty system is a democratic mechanism designed to strengthen direct public participation in governance and place the will of the people at the center of decision-making processes.
