Eminem discusses hip-hop influences in Shade 45 interview

In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s Shade 45, rapper Eminem discussed the musical influences that shaped his career. He identified LL COOL J as a primary inspiration, noting that the 1985 album ‘Radio’ was the first full rap cassette he owned. Eminem recalled that hearing the track ‘B. A. D.’ inspired him to write his first rap verses as a teenager, though he admitted his early attempts closely mirrored LL COOL J’s style.

Eminem also credited Rakim and Kool G Rap for his development in mastering multisyllabic rhyme patterns. He described the process of learning to connect complex syllables by practicing written phrases until the patterns became intuitive. Additionally, he reflected on his time in the Detroit underground rap scene and noted the unexpected experience of seeing younger artists adopt his own stylistic elements following the release of ‘The Slim Shady LP’.
